QUEST FOR A PERMANENT HOME
We have important information to share with all Raleigh Charter High School families.

Our lease on Pilot Mill expires in August 2012, and for almost two years we have been exploring our options in our Quest for a Permanent Home. I would like to invite you to a meeting where you can learn more about this Quest.

As you know, meeting space is limited, so we are holding meetings for parents by grade levels. However, if your designated evening does not work with your schedule, you may sign up for and attend one of the other sessions, which will be held in our Drama Room.

Meetings last from 7:00 to 8:15 p.m. The presentation lasts 42 minutes and there is time for questions. And even though we shall conclude at 8:15, we'll be around afterwards to answer questions and gather information from parents.

The junior parents' meeting was held on March 10. Due to the cancellation of the senior meeting (inclement weather), we encourage parents of seniors to attend one of the sessions listed below:

Senior Parents–Attend the session of your choice
Sophomore Parents—Tuesday, March 16
Freshmen Parents—Wednesday, March 24

It is important for every family to receive this information. Please email Carolyn Jackson to indicate which session you will attend.

We look forward to sharing an exciting possibility with our families.

CONGRATULATIONS
RCHS IS WE THE PEOPLE STATE CHAMPION

On March 5, Raleigh Charter students competed and showcased their work at the North Carolina We the People State Competition here in Raleigh.

Students engaged in a simulated Congressional Hearing, testifying in front of lawyers and judges as experts on aspects of the U.S. Constitution and the principles of American government. Students answered prepared questions like, "How would you define deliberation and do you agree or disagree that deliberation should be at the core of lawmaking? Why?" and "Why does the establishment clause generate the fiercest arguments about religion-related constitutional rights, even though there have been no established state churches in America for over two centuries?" They also answered follow-up questions that they had not heard before.

Ms. Klein's Constitutional Issues class won first place in the competition, earning the right to represent North Carolina at the National Competition in Washington, D.C., on April 24-26. This is a class competition and all students contributed to the victory, demonstrating a deep understanding of American constitutionalism and the meaning of American citizenship. Please congratulate:

R. Afzal, R. Austin, S. Chapin, K. Grayson, J. Hoover, A. Karsten, M. Khater, A. Le, T. Moore, G. North, S. O'Shea, I. Oglesby, E. Rock, J. Rowan, and J. Tobia.

Some of Mr. Day's students also showcased their work at the competition. They had a great day answering questions and receiving feedback from the judges.

SIX AUDITION FOR ALL-STATE HONORS BAND
On March 6, six RCHS students auditioned for the North Carolina All-State Honors Band in Thomasville. This band is composed of the best high school instrumentalists in the state.

These six students won the opportunity to audition for the Honors Band by having first auditioned for and made the Central District All-District Band and by receiving scores that placed them in higher seat positions for the All-District Band. These six students were: R. Austin, S. Austin, P. Breen, S. Frein, C. Kang and B. Kang.

From these six auditionees, three students won seats in the North Carolina All-State Band: S. Austin, P. Breen and B. Kang. They will be attending the All-State Honors Clinic at UNC-CH from April 30 to May 2.

Please congratulate all six of these students for their musical achievements!

NEWS AND NOTES

IDEAS FESTIVAL FEATURES SPEAKER ON IMMIGRATION REFORM
One of today's most debated issues in American politics is Latin American immigration to the United States, a topic that is highly publicized, and at times misrepresented. RCHS's Ideas Festival Committee will host Irene Godinez, the N.C. District Director for the Reform Immigration FOR America national campaign, in hopes of accurately representing Latin American immigration to the United States.

On Thursday, March 18, at 7 p.m. in the Drama Room, we are excited to have Ms. Godinez come and speak about immigration and cultural divides between the United States and Latin America. Following her talk, the audience will have the opportunity to ask Ms. Godinez questions. Hope to see you there!
M. Khater, RCHS Ideas Festival Committee President
