It is my goal to create a classroom where we can be comfortable to be ourselves and where real thinking and learning take place. Above all, my philosophical and pedogogical assumption is that learning to read and write well are necessary goals for every citizen in a democracy and well worth the work is required to master them. There are no shortcuts; to succeed, you will need to be focused and diligent, coming prepared to class and ready to engage in the intellectual rigor required for real learning.

But I also believe that learning is fun, and I hope that this year will be filled with many delightful discoveries and insights. I welcome you to join me as we embark on this journey.
