Welcome to Raleigh Charter High School!
I hope that you will take a few moments to look at our 2007 State Report Card. This Report Card includes information about our school and student performance, class sizes, attendance, testing, and more. If you are new to our school, I hope that you will look not only at the information in the State Report Card, but also at information from our school web site www.raleighcharterhs.org.
RCHS challenges college-bound students in a creative and supportive atmosphere to become knowledgeable, thoughtful, contributing citizens. Our staff is not only well educated, but also kind and caring. Our lessons stress active, social, and creative learning. The lessons in which our students engage are serious, and I hope that there is a lot of room for fun in their learning as well. Our school was founded on three important ideas: • To provide a challenging, college-preparatory education, • To encourage learning in an active, social, and creative environment, and • To nurture citizens.
Our innovative programming addresses these areas. Six times a year, Ex Days extend periods so that student can have longer classes (95 minutes instead of 45) for greater depth in laboratories, simulations, and projects. Twice a year, Flex Days give students a half day to explore curricular subjects in a field experience or in another extended and in-depth manner. Twice a year, Citizenship Service Days offer students choices in learning about ways they can understand community needs and contribute locally. Our Interdisciplinary Flex Day encourages students to think about paradigm shifts in human development as a way to prepare them for the very rapid pace of change we face in this century.
In addition to these special days, we believe that every day students can build the knowledge and the skills in order to be and to become a thoughtful, contributing citizen.
Charter schools offer choices to students and parents. We consider our charter school to be an educational laboratory for finding the best ways for our college-bound citizens to learn and to grow.
Sincerely,
Thomas E. Humble, Principal |
