- There is now a separate page for NCOAST. How I have not had this before I don't know. Find all of your NCOAST update needs here.
- The Salisbury Hippocampus Shootout (4/19) has been added to the tournament list, as has the Porter Ridge Parley, also 4/19. If the date conflict is resolved, we will pass it on.
- Congratulations to NCSSM for winning the Raleigh local Academic WorldQuest competition. They will compete in the national event in April.
- Congratulations to NCSSM for making the finals of the Belles Bowl on Feb. 9. They lost to a good Cave Spring (VA) team but did well against the rest of the field.
- The next NCATA events are the Right Triangle Open (3/8), and NCOAST (3/15). Registration for both the RTO and NCOAST are still open.
- Congratulations to Raleigh Charter for winning the fall 2007 Brain Game championship. Brain Game is under new management, so if you are interested in participating under new rules and procedures, contact the producer.
- NCOAST has a home for 2008! In the spirit of unifiying a state that is too wide for its own good, NCATA has begun a three-fold rotation of the NC state tournament. Last year the tournament was held in Raleigh (after negotiations for a Triad site fell through). This year the tournament will be held in the Charlotte area, specifically, at Hickory Ridge HS in Harrisburg, in the shadow of the Lowe's Motor Speedway. Thanks to Andrew Crook, the sponsor of the Hickory Ridge program, for helping us out. This confirms the date as March 15, 2008. You may begin registering at any time.
The NC
Tournament Schedule is currently showing dates for the 2007-2008 season.

Welcome to the web site for the
North Carolina Academic Team Association. This organization
was created
in order to encourage and develop academic competition (sometimes known as
Quiz Bowl) across North Carolina schools, public and private.
NCATA has three goals:
1. Help schools create and develop academic teams for competition in and out
of NC.
2. Support the creation of tournaments in NC, including a state level tournament.
3. Act as a clearinghouse for academic competition information for teams in
NC.
We encourage coaches from
all schools to join, and our future endeavors include the creation of by-laws,
election
of a board, and creating a more formal structure to support quiz bowl in
North Carolina. In the meantime, please check the links to the left to find
out about tournaments in your
area or
around
the
country.
