  • NCATA crowns Raleigh Charter A as the 2008-2009 North Carolina State Quz Bowl Champions! RCHS beat the Cobra Kings in the finals of the 2009 NCOAST at Andrews High School. (stats note: playoffs and prelims are listed separately; divisions are irrelevant in the playoffs file).
  • Individual stats for the 2008-2009 season for the purposes of voting for the NC all-star team. I will post the complete list for all players (400 or so) at the end of this week. Please submit votes to me by Thursday, May 21.
  • Congratulations to:
    • Green Hope HS for winning the Salisbury tournament on April 18.

    • Greensboro Day for nearly winning an advantaged final to finish second to Cave Spring at the Western NC Shootout.

  • Upcoming tournaments include NCOAST.
  • NCOAST is scheduled for May 16 at Andrews HS in High Point. Information will be sent out on this this week. We will be using an NAQT state championship set, IS-85.
  • If you've competed on Brain Game before, be aware that there are BIG changes to the program beginning the 2008-2009 season. The biggest is that the show is now open to 11th and 12th graders as well as 9th and 10th. The new rules (though some have already changed...) are available on the WRAL-TV website at the link above. If you are interested in playing, contact the show's producer.

Welcome to the web site for the North Carolina Academic Team Association. This organization was created in order to encourage and develop academic competition (sometimes known as Quiz Bowl) across North Carolina schools, public and private.

NCATA has three goals:

1. Help schools create and develop academic teams for competition in and out of NC.
2. Support the creation of tournaments in NC, including a state level tournament.
3. Act as a clearinghouse for academic competition information for teams in NC.

We encourage coaches from all schools to join, and our future endeavors include the creation of by-laws, election of a board, and creating a more formal structure to support quiz bowl in North Carolina. In the meantime, please check the links to the left to find out about tournaments in your area or around the country. You can also find competition resources, information about forming a team at your own school, study tips, and other useful items.
